SWIMMING.
AUCKLAND CENTRE MEETING. RESIGNATION OF CHAIRMAN. ADHERENCE TO DECISION. The Auckland Swimming Centre met Inst evening, the chairman, Mr. J. En wright, presiding. The chairman drew attention to a minute of the previous meeting that he should reconsider his resignation. He said he had made up his mind that he was not prepared to continue as chairman. He added ho did not think he could spare the necessary time. Mr. H. Moore said that, as the present season was almost ended, ho hoped Mr. Enwright would hold the matter over. Mr. Enwright replied he did not think he could find time to carry on, but he would continue as chairman until the end of the present season. A vote of thanks for his services was passed to Mr. J. Meikle, a delegate to the centre and a well-known swimmer and water-polo representative, who is shortly leaving for Christchurch. Mr. R. Hardy, a representative of the newly-formed Auckland University Swimming Club, attended the meeting. He stated after the success of other sports at the University, the students had enthusiastically taken up swimming and were holding a carnival at the Tepid Baths this evening. Between CO and 70 swimmers would compete. He fsaid the object of the club was to promote swimming among students. Every year promising swimmers, who had competed in the Grammar Schools' swimming sports, attended.the University. _ Members were of the opinion that a University Club would be of great advantage to swimming and every encouragement would be given to the club if affiliated to the centre. MISS STOCKLEY'S DEPARTURE. Mies Ena Stockley, the Auckland Olympic swimming representative, will leave by the limited express to-morrow evening to join the other members of the team in Wellington. The team will Bail from Wellington by the Remuera on Saturday. UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS. For the first time in its history the Auckland University will hold swimming and diWng championships at the Tepid. Baths this evening. Some interesting racse should be witnessed, as the competitors include J. P. Farrell, the well-known sprinter, and Hyauiason, a good handicap performer, besides C. J. McLean, who holds the distance championships for Gtago. There should be some interesting races among the lady competitors, who are very evenly matched. Miss Ena Stockley will give an exhibition during the evening. Thi3 will mark Miss Stockley's last appearance in Auckland before leaving for the Olympic Games.
