POLICE COURT NEWS.
A DEFAULTING HUSBAND, THREE MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. Arrears amounting to £327 were admitted by Joseph Greenwood, aged 39, labourer, who was chargod in the Jfolice Court yesterday with failing to comply with a maintenance order in respect of his wife, Cecilia Greenwood. Tha Order was made in June, 1924, and the arrears were computed to August, 1927. "Prisou is the only place for a man like you, Greenwood," said Mr. W. R. MfKean, - S.M. "You will be sentenced to three months' imprisonment." . Each pleading net guilty, Frederick Bird and Sydney A. Unwin, both middleaged, were charged with fighting in Lome Street. Bird, who has five children, was fiued 10s, and TJnwin 20s, the magistrate holding that both were "a bit to blame." On a charge of stealing a cornet valued at £25, Athol H. Beighton, a young man, was convicted ana discharged. It was stated accused was at present on probation and was under the eye of the probation officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, who reported well on his past conduct. "The theft is trifling," said Mr., Dickson for accused. "He pledged the cornet and went away to the country. He wrote to his father, who immediately got the comet back. He used to play in a band."
