NEW TELEPHONE SERVICE.
VANCOUVER TO BRITAIN. (Received March 8, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. VANCOUVER. March 7. A commercial wireless telephone service between Vancouver and Britain will be opened to-morrow. Conversations will cost £ll 8s 4d for the first three minutes and £3 16s 8d for each additional minute.
RADIO TELEVISION TESTS. IMAGES SEEN ON A LINER. A. and N.Z.-Sun. LONDON, March 7. A successful experiment in television between London and the steamer Bcrcngaria in mid-Atlantic was achieved this morning. Mr. Brown, chief wireless operator on the liner, saw his fiancee sitting in a studio in London.
The tests were carried on for two hours, and the vision was at times particularly clear. The image sound was formed in the studio and then sent by a land line to Parley, Surrey, where it was broadcast on a 45-metres wave and picked up by the Berengaria's short-wave set.
CONTRACTS BY WIRELESS. TRANSMISSION OF SIGNATURES. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK, March 7. The Radio Corporation of America has completed preparations for receiving from London tho signature of Mr. E. B. Strassburger, of Pennsylvania, a delegate to the Republican National Convention, who signed an authorisation of office in Paris. The process used in the transmission will bo similar to that employed with photographs. This was previously done when Mr. Carl Laemmle, the film producer, signed a contract by radio in September, 1927. It is expected to inaugurate a service by means of which contracts between Europe and America may bo signed by radio.
