CHRISTCHUBCH. Thursday.
Burglars broke into Sir. P. Ring's tobacconist shop in Colombo Street last night, and took a quantity of cigarettes, tobacco and fancy goods, valued at pbout £4O. The thieves brcke open the till, but it contained only 4d. Entrance to the shop was gained by a back door leading on to Moorhouse Avenue, a jemmy being used. The door was reinforced with iron apd was fitted with a lock, two bolts ana an iron bar. Some marks extending from the top to the bottom of the door bore evidence to the hard task the intruders had to gain entrance. Evidently the thieves took away more than they could carry, as a number of cigarettes were found strewn about the back yard, and on an adjoining section.
The drapery shop of Mr. J. T. McHargh, at Woolston, was also entered, and £SO worth of clothing, mostly men's apparel, was stolen. Overcoats, suits and underwear were included in the goods stolen.
