TRAINS RUN LATE.
DELAY TO EXPRESSES. HEAVY HOLIDAY " TRAFFIC. Delays on southern sections of thi* Main Trunk line resulted iu the late arrival yesterday morning of boih the first express and the limited from the south. ft; The first express was half an hour behind timo at Marton and oniered the Auckland section at Frankton 20 minutes late. Duo at 6.45 a.m., the train did not- reach Auckland until 7.15 a.m. The limited was 20 minutes late leaving Marton and lost jjnother 25 minutes before reaching Frankton. The express reached Auckland at 10.15, or 41 rainuios late. The recent late running of the expresses is accounted for by the volume of the holiday traffic causing the ordinary soutlibound expresses to run behind time and delaying the north-bound trains at the crossings. The new system of automatic signalling prevents the trains from making up lost time to the same extent as was possible under the old system.
