PROSPEROUS CANADA.
RECOVERY OF .RAILWAYS. BRIGHT FUTURE PREDICTED. The prosperity of Canada greatly impressed Mr. Digby F. Denham, ex-Pre-mier of Queensland, who is a through passenger by the Aorangi to Sydney, after an extended tour through that Dominion. Mr. Denham was Premier of Queensland during the Liberal regime from 1911 to 1915, when his party was defeated by the Labour forces. Mr. Denham stated that the Canadian national railway system had made a wonderful recovery. Five years ago, when Sir Henry Thornton took charge, only two million dollars was paid toward the funded debt, but last year the sum of 45 million dollars was paid. "There is a feeling of great optimism throughout the Dominion," stated Mr. Denham. "A wonderful year was experienced last year and taxation has been reduced. Canada is very prosperous and cannot fail to go ahead by leaps and bounds."
