As illustrating the stern discipline exercised by the Australian Seamen's Union over its members, the bosun of one of the Commonwealth steamers was charged at a union meeting with carrying to tho mate tales about certain happenings in the forecastle. bosun offered an explanation, but the meeting adjudged him guilty and ordered him to give 24 hours' notice of his intention to leavo tho vessel, and also not to seek re-employment in the Commonwealth Line for 12 months.
