NOTES ON THE RACING. SOME EXCITING FINISHES. NARROW WIN FOR STORMY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday. The Manawatu meeting was concluded today in overcast and warm weather. The Kilbroney—Oratress filly Oratrix won the Liverpool Handicap, while her brother Concentrate scored in the Juvenile Handicap. Both gave good displays. They are trained by H. B. Lorigan at Trentham. Another Kilbroney mare in Henna scored in the Christmas Handicap. In the Tiritea Hurdles Elysianor, Hymgreat and Red Fuschia were evenly backed with Mister Gamp a pronounced favourite. Hymgreat, Kilburn, Fed Fuschia, Elysianor, Revel and Blue Peter was the. order to the first fence, and at the stands Elysianor led Hymgreat, Red Fuschia, Kilburn, Revel and Blue Peter all in close order. Red Fuschia jumped to the front five furlongs from home from Hymgreat, Kilburn, Elysianor, Revel and Mister Gamp, all in a bunch. Red Fuschia led to tho last fence from Hymgreat, Kilburn and Elysianor, tho four being almost in line as they landed over. , Red Fuschia drew out on the flat to beat Hymgreat by two lengths, with Kilburn a short head away third. Elysiitnor was fourth and Blue Peter. Revel and Mister Gamp next. Mister Gamp almost fell at the turn on tho flat but he was a good long way back at the time, yet was making a run. Bed Fuschia gavo an improved display and won well. In tho Apprentice Handicap, Courageous and Barry an da headed tho market with plenty of money for tho Mis 3 Pat-Discourse bracket and Dainty Ways. Cloyne led out of tho barrier closely attended by Lin Arlington, Reckless, Mies Pat, Dainty Ways and Borsalene. Discourse ran up handy to these as they raced past the half mile but Dainty Ways was in charge aa they turned for home from Misti Pat, Lin Arlington. Cloyne, Discourso and Barryanda. Miss Pat had Dainty Ways in trouble a furlong from homo while Discourse and Lin Arlington joined in. Miss Pat stuck on to win by half a length from Liu Arlington, with Barryanda a head away third. Discourse was another head away fourth, followed after a gap of three lengths by Courageous, Dainty Ways and Tone. Miss Pat won well and Discourse and Barryanda stayed on in good style. Dainty Ways was -badly ridden, not boing given a chance of u breather. In the Juvenile Handicap High Disdain was favourite with Concentrate, Moutoa. Treasury and Briar Boot tho only others backed. Gold Boy showed out first from High Disdain, Llimore, Brown Sugar and Briar Root. High Disdain took charge at tho end oil a furlong from Gold Bag, Brown Sugar. Llanore, Briar R'oot and Moutoa Treasury, with Concentrate, Hine Hohoro and Boston last. High Disdain led into tho straight from Llanore, Moutoa Treasury, Gold Bag and Briar -Root. High Disdain commenced to fade away a furlong from homo. „ Briar Root forced his way through, looking all over a winner, then Concentrate came with a grtot rattle on the outside to win by half a length from Briar Root. Moutoa Treasury wan three-

quarters o! a length away third, and Llanore, High Disdain, Gold Boy and Select at intervals next Concentrate finished like a real racehorse and Briar Boot and Moutoa Treasury both went fine races. High Disdain will see a better day. In the Liverpool Handicap Civility, Lady Limond and Damans all carried over JOOO tickets, with Oratrix fairly solidly supported. Lady Limond led out of the straight from Civility. Damans, Waioullua and Gaze. Lady Limond led down t.lie hack just ahead of Waicullus, Damans and Civility, with Gaze and Oratrix next. Oratrix ran up handier to the leading quartette half a mile from homo and at the turn Lady Limond just led Damaris, with Waicullus and Oratrix almost level. Lady Limond held off Damans under pressure, but over the last few strides Oratrix, under the whip, finished on to ■beat Lady Limond by a short head. Damaris was a length -away third and Waicullus a Hood fourth. Then came Gaze and Ardfinnan. Oratrix finished very solidly and Lady Limond ran another fine race. Daman's and Waicullus both raced well, but Civility was disappointing.

Hot Favourite Beaten. In the Westbury Handicap First Sight was a very hot favourite with big money for Keddar, Abbess, the Broad Acre-Le-ch amp bracket and Helotis. Rosebush, Keddar, Miss Pat and Broad Acre began best, with First Sight slow away. Rosebush was out clear down the back from Broad Acre, Lechamp, Miss Pat, Helotis. Keddar and Carrigallen. Rosebush led into the straight from Broad Acre, Lechamp. Carrigallen, Helotis and Keddar with First Sight still well back. Broad Acre took charge a furlong from homo to win nicely by a length and a-half from Keddai, who beat Carrigallen by a similar margin. First Sight was fourth, and Rosebush, Abbess and Helotis next. Broad Acre won comfortably, whilo Keddar was a little unlucky, hirst Sight did not run to earlier form. In the Clandcboye Handicap Stormy, a good favourite, broke the sequence of beaten first choices. Moepai, Polar, Novar and Alyson began best, but there was a good deal of shuffling at the turn out of ttie straight and Polar was left in charge to lead past the six furlongs' barrier from Huikai, March On, Stormy. Alyson, Assurance and Black Mint. At the half-mile Polar led Huikai, Stormy, Alyson, Assurance, March On and Black Mint, with Novar last. Stormy ran round his field and led into the straight from Polar. Huikai and Assurance. Assurance put in a good run on the outside and Stormy had to bo ridedn right out to beat Assurance by a short head. Polar was a length away third, and Huikai fourth. Then came Alyson, Black Mint and Kilmiss. Stormy had nothing to spare and it looked as if Assurance with a better jockey up would have won. Henna Wins Well. The Christmas Handicap saw Blimp, another of the strong first favourites, go down, the consistent Henna again coming home for all her 9st slb and paying u great price. Blimp, Tanagra, Royal Picture, Kindle and Henna were the first out and at the end of a furlong Tanagra was bowling along in front from Royal Picture. Vindication. Blimp, Kindle, Henna and Skyxider. Three furlongs from home Tanagra led Kindle, Royal Picture, Cool Card, Blimp, Historic and Henna. Henna came through on the rails racing for the turn, and was almost up with Tanagra and Royal Picture as they straightened up with Cool Card heading the others. Tanagra was done with a furlong from home, and Henna and Cool Catd • were joined by Blimp and Capitulation. In a good battle Henna beat Cool Carci by half a length, with Capitulation a head away third. Blimp was half a lens:th back fourth, and then came Tanagra. aiad Historic* Henna was lucky at the turn, but she won well. Cool Card, Blimp and Capitulation all went good races, but possibly Blimp would ha\e done better on a solt track. Lady Cavendish was favourite for the concluding event with good support for Arrow Lad, Covent Garden, Epistle and Duke Abbey. Lady Cavendish. Covent Garden, Epistle, Arrow Lad, Standard, Cosmetic and Duke Abbey was the order down the back. Duke Abbey then moved up. Racing for the turn Epistle just led Lady Cavendish, Duke Abbey, Arrow Lad and Covent Garden. In a good race home Arrow Lad and Epistle drew out. Arrow Lad winning by a head.
