EMPIRE TOBACCOS.
IMPORTS INTO BRITAIN. RAPID RECENT INCREASE. (Britis 1 . Official Wireless.) (Received December 1, 5.49 p.m.) A. and N.Z. - RUGBY. Nov. 30. The imports into Britain of tobaci-o grown within the Empire have increased rapidly during tho past year. They amounted in 10 months to 34,000,0001b. weight, as compared with less than 16,000,0001b. in the corresponding period of 1925, and 26,000,0001b in the 10 months of 1926. The primary cause of tho increase in the consumption of tobaccos grown in the Dominions up to the present is said to be the preference duty of 2s o£d per lb. conceded to Empire produce. Rhodesia, Nyasdland and Canada are greying tobaccos which are proving increasingly attractive. *
