ART AND THE GARDEN.
WATER COLOUR EXHIBITION. The subdued tones of Brittany, the quiet beauty of English woods and com mons, and the bright masses of colour familiar m New Zealand gardens, are all represented in the exhibition of water colour drawings now being held by Mrs Vigers (Lucretia Johnson), in the Click Clack Cabaret Newmarket A love of coloui manifests itself in every picture and sketch
The artist finds a great opportunity for introducing large colour masses in her pictures ol gardens In each case the subject is happily chosen, seldom including more than a picturesque corner or a tall and many-coloured border Par ticularly good among these is a sketch of the gateway of a drive on the Remuera Road with a soft and broadly treated mass ">f hydrangeas and some cabbage tiees The public gardens of Auckland are represented by views of the Domain and of the Ellershe racecourse gardens A wonderful variety of quaint, gaily coloured novelties is shown Mrs Vigers appears capable of making all sorts of fascinating things, from comic dolls to stately candlesticks and lamp standards. •
