SWIMMING.
THE AUCKLAND CENTRE RESIGNATION OF CHAIRMAN. At a meeting of the Auckland Swimming Centre, presided over by Mr. T. C. HobbaJones, the chairman handed in his resignation owing to the fact that he has been transferred to Christchurch. The resignation was accepted with regret and Mr. Hobbs-Jones, was accorded a vote of thanks for his services. The meeting also decided to make the retiring chairman a presentation in recognition of what he had done in the interests of swimming in Auckland. A good deal of discussion took place regarding the charges of subscription fees for club members. The Mount Eden Ch|b had given notice of motion that. " the minimum subscription fees for members of all clubs be as follows:—Senior: Males, 2s 6d; ladies. Is. Juniors: Boys, Is; girls. Is." It was pointed out that the Ponsonby and Devonport Clubs bad reduced the fee for juniors to 6d. Prior to the discussion it Mas ascertained that there was a solicitor in attendance with the Ponsonby delegates. His presence was objected to by some of the delegates, and at the request of the chairman he left the room. Mr. Jj. Brighton, a Ponsonby delegate, made a vigorous protest againsVi the motion. _ stating that the centre had no right to dictate to the clubs. An amendment that all clubs be allowed to charge Gd for school children, providing they exclude them from the membership returns made to the centre, was lost. The motion was then carried, the three Ponsonby delegates dissenting. Mr. Brighton gave notice of hi* intention to appeal against the centre's decision. MISS MAGEE RETURNS. Miss Doris Magee, intermediate girl swimming champion and record holder for New Zealand, returned to Auckland yesterday after a holiday in Australia.
