AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. PROVISIONAL SELECTION. A meeting of the emergency committee of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening to consider the advisability of sending a team to represent Auckland at the Dominion championship meeting in Christchurch on December 9 and 10. The secretary. Mr. R. Phillips, reQorted r the expense of sending each competitor would be about £lO. to include second-class on tram and first-class ou steamer. As the centre was short of funds, it would be neecssary for the clubs to assist, and taat subscriptions should be raised forthwith. _ The Wellington centre wrote stating it proposed to hold a carnival at the Basin Reserve on December 13, and it invited the Auckland representatives to take part, tne net proceeds to be divided between the Wellington. Wanganui-Taranaki and Auckland centres. It was decided to accept the offer of the Wellington cent re, also that ar. Auckland team be selected provisionally as follows: Running, J. W. Savidan, J. S. Watt, J. L. McCoy A. .T. Elliott and L. C. Williams; hurdling and jumping, J. W. Shirley; cycling, M. P. Byrnes . Subscription lists will lie circulated today. and an effort made ta send the team awav by next Tuned ay. In addition to the nam»9 provisionally chosen. Miss Norma Wilson, the Gisborne lady champion, was selected, and will represent Auckland in the ladies' events in Christchurch. MEETING IN THE DOMAIN. HANDICAPS FOR TODAY. Owing to the failure of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Olympic Council to assemble a quorum of ten members last i evening, the executive was unable to pro- I eeed with its general business. . . I The president, Mr. K. A. Craig, said it was pronosed io carry on with the preliminary work in the meantime, and already all sports bodies had been asked to forward the names of direct representatives to form a general committee. The president made an appeal for assistance for this worthy object. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the branch on Thursday. December 15.
