NOTES FROM ROTORUA.
HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS. MONEY FOR MAMAKU ROAD. [BY" TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Tuesday The Rotorua High School Board met last evening, Mr. R. B Nesbitt presiding. A telegram was received from the Director of Education stating that tho Minister had approved of the agreement regarding finances drawn up between the department and the board. Plans for the caretaker's cottage, armoury and bicycle sheds were submitted by the architect. Slight alterations were considered necessary, and a sub-committeo was appointed to confer with the architect with power to finalise matters. Tenders for the laying out of roads and paths and main drains were received, and that of J. R. To Kiri, £260, was accepted, subject to the department s approval. A representative body of residents waited upon the Mayor, Mr. 1. McDowell, requesting him to call a public meeting with a view to carrying out the pioposal to raise money with the object of ensuring that the Mamaku Road should be kept in good order for tho coming tourist season. The Main Highways Board has promised to subsidise any money taised for this purpose at the rate of £4 for £l. The Mayor said the proposal had his hearty support. He realised the importance of this highway to Rotorua. He agreed to call a meeting at an early date.
