AUCKLAND CLUB.

YEAR OF ITS JUBILEE. CELEBRATIONS THIS WEEK. Having attained the fiftieth year of,its foundation, the Auckland Glitb will celebrate its jubilee to-morrow afternoon in conjunction with, an "At Home" to be tendered Mr. L. S. Amery and Mrs. Amery. Upon its foundation in 1877, the club leased the site of its present building, but shortly afterwards purchased the land and the building then situated there, for approximately £7OOO. It is a striking indication of the extent to which land values have appreciated; to remember that the section has a frontage of 66ft. on both Shortland and Fort Streets, running right through the block, and to contemplate its present-day value. Of the foundation members of the club only six are now actively associated at members, and part of the jubilee celebrations will be their constitution as life members. There are still living a few others who were associated with the club in its earliest days, but they do not now claim membership. About 25 years ago, fire partly destroyed the original clubhouse, which was rebuilt, and, some eight years ago, considerably enlarged. The later building scheme gave more and better accommodation for country and resident members, and provided excellently-plained quarters for the staff. To day the Auckland Club ranks as one of the best clubs in New Zealand.
