WAITOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] < TE AROHA, Saturday. Members of the Waitoa Drainage Board elected Mr. Watson chairman and Mr ,J. D. MacKay, deputy-chairman at its last meeting. Mr. MacKay moved that a statement be prepared setting out the board's financial position, and that of present arid proposed works. The motion was carried. The clerk, Mr. 11. Rowbottham, submitted a statement covering the position in regard to outstanding rates during the past four years. For the year ending Marcli 31, 1928. a sum of £3558 had been levied, of which £328 had been collected to date. Thirteen ratepayers forwarded a petition of protest against the Waitoa drainage loan. The clerk explained that the area held 24 ratepayers. The petition objected to the regrading of the Farmers Road drain. It was -decided to defer the matter until the next meeting, Messrs. Watson and Wilton, and thxs engineer being deputed to confer with the petitioners iu the meantime.
