GLEN EDEN CLUB'S OPENING. There was a large gather)ng of residents and local and visiting bowlers ut the official opening of the Glen Eden Club's toeen on Saturday. Members of the Auckland Centre present were;— Messrs. J. W. Hardley, past president; S. Coldicutt, vice-president: and G. M. Reid. Apologies were received from Mr., H. G. R. Mason. M.P. for the district. Mr. Jas. Pascoe, president of the Auckland Centre, and several others. Mr. W. A. Kirkpatrick, president of the Glen Eden Club, briefly outlined the short history of the club and specially thanked Messrs. Buckton. R. Waldrom and Wrisjht •for their valuable assistance in 4he erection of tho new pavilion. He also referred to the spirit of co-operalion and assistance alforded by the members of the Croquet Club. Messrs. Coldicutt and Hardley, on behalt of the x~nd Centre, congratulated the club on its great progress. After Mrs. Kirkpatrick had thrown the first jack, the green was declared open. The gathering then adjourned to the croquet Fawns, where Mrs. G. I'. C. Hosking congratulated the Croquet Club on the extension* of its lawns, wished the members a pleaßant and successful season, and called on the president, Mrs. N. S. I'ox, to play the first ball. Later in the afternoon Mrs. Hosking piesenteH the prizes donated by the- president, the A prize being won by Mrs. Hodson, ol Mount Albert, and the B prize by Mrs. Lewell, of Henderson. During the afternoon several items were rendered by Lynn Boys' Band. A bowling match between representatives of the Auckland Centre, with Mr. J. W. GREY LYNN V. THAMES. On Saturday six rinks from the Grey Lynn Bowling Club visited Thames to play the first inter-club match against the local club. The visitors were met by the Mayor, Mr. W. Ronsard, and other Thames playe_rs in whose cars they were conveyed to the green where this ladies had ready a sumptuous afternoon tea. Mr. C. Palmer, tiie president of the Thames Club, extended a hearty welcome to the Grey Lynn players, and expressed a hope that'the fixture would become an annual one. Responding, Mr. W H Newton, president of the Grey Lynn Club, thanked the Thames players for their hospitality and assured them that the return visit would be eagerly looked forward to.
