ROTORUA HIGH SCHOOL.

ARRANGEMENT "OF FINANCES. AGREEMENT WITH DEPARTMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Friday. The Rotorua High School Board held a special meeting last evening to discuss matters relating to finances. Mr. R. B. Nesbitt presided. For some time there have been matters between the department and the board that needed adjustment owing to the division of the endowment fund and to tho expenditure. A-i a previous meeting of the board it was decided to request the department to arrange a meeting between tho department and the board's solicitor. This was agreed to and an agreement has been submitted by tho department for the board's approval. This -was done last evening. The agreement briefly is that the present site of tho high school shall be vested in fee simple in tho board, so that the board may obtain a land transfer title to it; that of the revenue from the education reserve in future 55 per cent, shall be devoted to teachers' salaries and 45 per cent, may be used by the board free of control or direction by tho department, except when specifically stated to the contrary. This will enable tho board to provido for school sports of various kinds and as funds allow swimming baths, scholarships and other purposes approved by the department. Tho department undertakes to provide funds for all future enlargements that may bo needed and to furnish and equip the buildings as in other secondary schools, all tho accumulated funds to be spent on the high school. A further sum estimated at about £2OOO will be provided by the department, which snail have no claim on tho income of the board, except as agreed. Archdeacon Chatterton moved that the board confirm tho terms set out in the agreement and authorise tho seal of the board to bo affixed. Tho thanks of the board were accorded to Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P., and the solicitors for their great help.
