LEGALISING A ROAD.

MARAETOTARA GORGE ROUTE REQUEST TO COUNTY COUNCIL. [BST TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Friday. At a meeting of the Whakatane County Council, Mr. L Buddie, solicitor, representing Mr. H. D. Knight, asked the council to take steps to legalise the Maradtotara Gorge Road. He said it was the only important road in the county not legalised. The chairman stated that the whole road to Waimu Bridge at the county boundary was in the same position. After a long discussion the engineer was instructed to make a survey of the road and if the council is satisfied that it is tho best route obtainable logal steps will be taken so that the council can claim assistance from the Highways Board.
