AMERICA AND BRITAIN.
PROBLEMS FACING STATES. MR. BORAH ON OIL SUPPLY. (Received August 21, 5.5 p.m.) A and N.Z.-Sun. NEW YORK, Aug. 20. The visit of the British Prime Minister, Mi 1 . Baldwin, to Canada, for the purpose of building up and strengthening in every way the British Empire, was taken by Mr. W E. Borah, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate, in a speech at Kellogg, Idaho, to-day, as the basis for his remarks. Mr. Borah urged a concentrated national effort to solve the American problems of taxation, farm relief and conservation of oil resources. Mr. Borah said he regretted the breakdown of the Geneva Disarmament Conference and he cited in this connection the pressing problem of the conservation of oil. "While we are debating the question of the cruiser ratio, a reckless, criminal waste of our oil supply is going on, which literally menaces the national security," said Mr. Borah.
