WILD FIGHT IN STREET.

GLASGOW DOCKS AFFRAY. RIVAL COLOURED SEAMEN. REVOLVERS AND KNIVES USED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. A. and N.Z.-Sim. LONDON, Aug. 18. A wild street fight between rival gangs of African and Arab sailors took place at the Glasgow Docks to-day. The combatants used revolvers, knives and loaded canes. The trouble arose over the engagement of an engine-room crew for a Clyde liner. The Africans thought the jobs, should be theirs. They crowded the street outside the union offices, which was instantly cleared. The coloured seamen were left struggling amid the flash of knives and terrifying shouts and groans. Ambulance officials collected 12 of the combatants who were found lying, on the pavements. Four were severely wounded. Eight of the men were arrested and they also were wounded. An eye-witness says he saw an Arab who was in the act of drawing a revolver shot in the back by his rivals. Another Arab was chased along several streets until he collapsed. He had knife wounds in his forehead and back.
