REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES. INCOME AND EXPENDITURE. RETURNS FROM BUTTER POOLS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Activities of the past year were reviewed at a meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board to-day when 'the annual report and balance-sheet was discussed and approved. The export levy on butter and cheese for the past year yielded £59,960 Is 2d, with £3,023 8s 6d as interest on investments, giving •» total income of £62,933 9a Bd. Expenditure, exclusive of advertising, amounted to £54,416 4s 7d. leaving a credit balance of £8467 5s Id. The advertising account indicated that of the £20,000 voted by the board, £19,667 3s Id had been spent. The net result of the year's working, covering genera] expenditure and advertising,- showed that the accumulated funds had been drawn upon to the extent of £11,199 18s. Details of the first butter pool were submitted to the board, showing that a balance of £2051 16s lid remained for distribution. The returns of the second butter pool showed that 95 per cent, had been sold at an average price of 158s lid per cwt. The remaining 5 per cent., although selling at improved prices, would only slightly raise the general average. The total marketing charges would be about 19s a cwt., giving an approximate net return of 140s. This would mean a payment of Is 3 l-8d per lb. for finest, grade; Is 25-8 d for first grade and Is 1 5-8 d for second grade. Suspension of Advertising. The returns of the cheese pool showed that 87 per cent, had been sold at an average of 83s 3d. The remaining 13 per cent., selling at the present improved prices, should bring the average to approximately 84s. With total charges approximately 14s a net return of 70s should be averaged, equivalent to per lb. \ It is anticipated that the whey butter pool will finally average Is 2 l-8d for first grade and Is 1 l-8d for second grade. It was pointed out that advertising efforts in Great Britain were to be suspended with the exception of the method already decided upon of maintaining contact with the retailers. Conditions of export licences were finally agreed upon, generally along the lines indicated after the last meeting. They will be' submitted to' the Minister for his approval. Provision was made for the supervision of* account sale returns and the marketing' costs by the board's London office on behalf of all factories desiring * that supervision. The offer of the National Dairy Association to continue work in Auckland New Plymouth in connection with shipping documents was accepted. Preliminary arrangements were made for the prompt despatch of all butter manufactured up to the end of November and cheese until the end of Decern her. The final arrangements, said thr chairman, Mr. W. Grounds, will be made regarding the volume of reservation; later on in the season, when more exar. knowledge of seasonal and market con ditions is- possible.
