NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS.

WARWICKSHIRE MATCH.

FINE SECOND-WICKET STAND.

DEMPSTER 180. ALLCOTT 131.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright-. A. and N.Z.-Sun., ; LONDON. July 25. The cricket match New Zealand v. Warwickshire was i*esumed this morning at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on an ideal wicket. There was only a small attendance. On, the resumption of the New Zealanders' first .innings Dempster and Allcott were associated in the finest secondwicket partnership seen anywhere this season. Both batsmen completely mastered the Warwickshire attack .and each made a century in superb style. Allcott was. the first to- make 50. It took him 70 minutes. Dempster was 25 minutes longer, but after that he played very aggressive cricket and reached his century in 170 minutes, just forestalling his partner. Dempster gave a difficult chance at the wicket when he had made 102, otherwise both played chanceless innings. Critics expressed the opinion that their batting was the best of the year. The partnership added 303 in three and a-half hours- Dempster batted four hours and hit 19.; fours, including five off consecutive balls in one of Quaife's overs. Allcott hit 13 fours. McGirr and Page also laid on the wood merrily. Altogether it was a day of exhilarating and enterprising cricket—a real tonic compared with the average county games. With the score at 492 for six wickets New Zealand declared. When stumps were drawn Warwickshire had lost two wickets for 43. This left them with 215 runs to get to avert a single innings defeat.
