WORKS IN A BOROUGH.
DEVON PORT'S NEW SCHEME. A POLSCY OF CONCENTRATION. The Devonport Borough Council decided last evening to give a trial to a new system of employing the staff on borough works. The scheme provides that all the men engaged on toutine work in various parts of the borough shall to-operate on one job on certain days of each month. The first task under the scheme will be the clearance of tome gorse The Mayor, Mr. E. Aldridge, said that while he was : n ihe mayoral chair he would have some say in the ■works administration of the borough. The scheme could be tried •« itliout any detriment to the borough. They were there to spend the ratepayers' money and to see that it was spent to the best advantage. Members of the council expressed the view that with the co-operation of the engineer and the foreman of works, the scheme should work successfully.
