CANADIAN RAILWAYS.
CONFERENCE AVERTS STRIKE. MEN GRANTED HIGHER PAY. (Received June 9, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. . OTTAWA, June 8. At a conference between the' freight handlers and checkers and the employers a strike on tho Canadian railways by 3000 raihvaymen was averted. The men are to receive a substantial part of the increase in wages which they sought.
