INSPECTION BY MINISTER. AREAS IN CHRISTCHURCH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ~J CHRISTCHURCH, Monday In pursuance of a promise made last Parliamentary session the Minister of Labour, Hon. G. J. Anderson, this morning made a visit to various closely settled areas containing poor types of houses in various portions of Christ church. The promise was he would visit the four chief centres of the Dominion, and with members of Parliament and others he would inspect any poor areas which might exist with a view to considering the continuance or otherwise of the rent restriction regulations, which expire on August 31 next. " My purpose was not to see slums, but to see whether it would be wise to consider the continuance of the Rent Restriction Act in compliance of the promise I made to the House," explained Mr. Anderson after the inspection. Asked for an expression of any opinions lie had formed the Minister laughingly replied, " I will not be expressing any opinion when the time comes. I will simply act."
