A POLITICAL ASPIRANT.
MAYOR OF CHRIST CHURCH. [BY TKI.BGRAPH. —OWN COHHESI'ONDENf. { CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. It would appear that, the Mayor, Rev. J. K. Archer, is aspiring to political honour!! since his overwhelming victory in tho recent Mayoral election. Judging by his remarks at tha May Day celebration in Victoria Square yesterday, he will bo found among the Labour stalwarts at tho general election, "I havo come to tho conclusion," tasd Mr. Archer, "that wo are not going to get so far ahead as we want to until wa get a Labour Government, and I am not saying that because I am a party man. In spite of its defects I believe tho British Empire is the best in the world. It would bo the best one could possibly imagine if the right people were at tha head of it. Why do tho Chinese look upon tho whites and tho British Empiro in particular as their enemies? It is because wo have got in London a crowd of men with no international instinct. Ido not blame tht?m; I say they cannot help it. They can no more understand it. than a blind man ran see light. If we had Labour men at the head of affairs things would bo different."
