BISHOP OF MELANESIA.
ELECTION OF A SUCCESSOR. The duty of electing a successor to the Rt. Be v. J. M. Steward, Bisljop of Melanesia, whose intention to resign next yc-ir was announced yesterday, will clbupon the bishops of the Province of New Zealand, after consultation with representatives of the diocese of Melanesia. As the bishop's resignation will not trko effect until noxt year it will not be necessary to take any action for some time yet. The assistant-bishop of Melanesia, the Rt. Rev. F. M. Molyneux, need not necessarily bo elected to the position of bishop, but it is possibje that he may be chosen, The suggestion has beer, made that two independent dioceses should bo constituted in Melanesia.
