THE ASSOCIATION CODE.

COMPETITIONS CONTINUED. ! SOME REMARKABLE SCORING, INDIVIDUAL BRILLIANCY. Prolific scoring by individual players made the second-round matches of tbo ; Auckland Football Association on Saturi.iy uniqne. Two players, Woolley (North Shore) and Spencer (Tramways), jach secured four goals, and two Dthers, Booth (Ponsonby) and EPoban (Y.M.C.A.), performed the " hat trick." , [n addition to this remarkable series of performances tho i«ani scores were high. , At Blandford Park the chief match petween Navy Depot and Tramways ended n victory for Tramways by 5 goals to 2. lie winners going ahead only in the last 'ew minutes. The Navy team put up i fine showing against a strong combination. The earlier match was contested at a ijreat pace by Thistle and Ponsonby. Thistle was somewhat disorganised by he absence of Kay, the usual left wing, put nevertheless the side fielded was a powerful one. Ponsonby gave a surprisingly good display and had a slight idvantage in a game which saw it defeated by 4 goals to 3. At Devonport, the North Shore seniors proved too good for Northcote and ran nit the winners by 5 goals to 1. Onehunga, on its own ground, was peaten by 3 to 1 by Y.M.C.A. after the after eleven had been reshuffled for tho lecond spell with notable improvement. Detailed results are as follows: Tramways, 5, beat Navy Depot, 2. Thistle, 4, beat Pgnsonby, 3. North fyhore, 5, beat Northcote, 1. Y.M.C.A., 3, beat Onehunga, 1. ' « TRAMWAYS WELL EXTENDED. A much-improved Navy Depot team gave Tramways a hard game which provided fine botball and but for the winners' ability to :orgo ahead in the final stages, could quite reasonably have ended in a draw. Defending the northern end Navy Depot forced the pace, being aided by good back play, fitcher quickly settled down and after just :ailing to beat Batty, sent across a beautiful centre. Mile 3, on the opposite wine, was on hand to score the first goal. L'ho Navy continued on the attack for several minutes, but Tramways eventually worked clear and some hot rallies ensued n the Navy goal area. Tho scores were evened when Spencer peat the defence badly. Gilmore went within m ace of scoring for tho Navy and then Watson handled in the penalty area. Meylell took the kick, which Batty tipped aside. However, the Navy centre-half again iccured and sent tho ball well abovo the prostate goalkeeper. With Navy Depot leading by a goal Tramway exercised all its wiles. However, t was the Navy team which manoeuvred nto the nest promising position. Miles ■ross-kicked to Black, to Pitcher, and the Tramways' goal was subjected to some laneerous shots. The backs found safer ?round and a. corner was gained. Siin 'entred smartly and Spencer headed in. N'eynell showed up in resultant plav and placed the ball well upfield but Ronton was on-aide and Tramways found relief for Fyfie to test Stearns. The game was maintaining its interest and was still being congested at a hot pace. Tramways _ was igain on the defensive and the Navy inside forwards had bad luck in not scoring. Miles ivas in excellent fettle and placed with accuracy. It seemed ontv n matter of time before ho wov'd score. The spell ended with the senro 2 all. Tu the early stages of the second half Hilinore gave the Navy forwards a fine ihance but Ronton sent the leather far ibove the bar. The Naval men returned but kicked too far forward to be dangerous. Pitcher again brokfl through n"d Black ilinost scored. Next moment the Navy jjcial lad an equally narrow escape. The Navy ".ombined in some vuetty combined work, Black, Miles and Somerson claiming i>roninence, but the Tramways backs stood he test. Lewis dashed along the line and .•entred, Davis nearly scoring. Continuing o display surprising form the Navy ■■ressed but was gradually driv»n back and ipencer scored his third goal. From Navy's irea Somerson cleared r"d Miles had hard uck in rot equalising. Chances agai" came put the Navy shooting was weak. Neither ,vas the Tramways shooting what it should lave been. Lawrence an' l Rail were Itcni jus v repulsing tho Tramways front•ankers. A grnt effort to score was made py Navy but Rimnson sent the ball to lafer ground. Pitcher was carried off but ■eturned soon afterwards. Once again the avy attacked onlv to lose ground and the Tramways forwards thmst home another iltack when Stearns' clearnr.re rebounded iff Davi« into the net. A minute lat»r Snenler got I"** fourth goal after irreaiatible footwork. There was no further score. Tramways winning a hard game by 5 goals to 2. A SPECTACULAR CONTEST. A spectacular match resulted beween Thistle and Ponsonby, the latter team deserving high credit for its splendid perorrnanco against, such strong opposition. With a trifle more luck, the losers might tiavo earned at least one point, as their iilay vim is quite equal to till* of Thistle. Defending tho Grafton Bridge end Thistle commenced one man short, but P. Kay came m late in place of Croker. the Auckland rciresentative, who was ill, and occupied he outside-left position. For more than L 5 minutes play was fairly even, any slight idvantago being in Ponsonlpy's favour. The t'onsonby forwards repeatedly tried to preak through but when they succeeded :ould not score. Eventually. Booth, running a advance of a long p:tss from the centre, ipiuj the ball into the -corner of the net. Thistle retaliated and (he forwards bore lowjj on tho Ponsonby goal in a sustained pombardi nt. Hislop took the ball on a ■e bound and shot, u good goal to even the .cores . | Ponsonby quickly took the lead again. Miearn broke away from midfield and drew Ferguson before passing to Innes. The wing .-entred splendidly and Booth scored an jxcellent goal. Another ijoai came shortly ifterwards through brilliant play by Stewart, tho Thistle centre. Cumtnings <ent in a great pass and, beating Innes or it. Stewart trapped and swung around :o. pilot the ball past Jack. The Ponsonby joaikeeper was severely tested by Ilisiop lirectly afterwards. Bell and Booth provided the thrill, but the latter's shot ight, across the goal-mouth went begging. For tho remainder of the spell the play was 'ast and even. The half-time score «■»»:- riiistle. 2; Ponsonby. 2. From the kick-off the Ponsonby front line pore down on its opponents' goal. Bell hot, only to have hjs attempt brilliantly saved by Zoull. The clearance went to Booth, who had better luck in notching a ipectacular goal. Again Thistle laußcbftd m attack which, saw the scores evened. Dickson missed with a long shot, but the jail came hack to b'm and this time be wide no mistake Two fine goals had been •cored in as many minutes and tbo Pace showed no signs of easing. Thistle then conceded a comer and Booth ■sarrov.iy missed his fourth goal. The ball went away at a great rate for Stewart to wake the opening for Dickson to score torn close in. Durtsraore started another itlack, but "off-side" was ruled. Immediitely afterwards Be'l failed with an e»*y shot. In the following few minutes th« hustle Teat-guard was severely tried. It was still anybody's game Both coals vreie .-isited in tarn. Ponsonby I*eiitg more consist ent in this respect. Booth sent tn a •poster" and Bell tested Zoull with a hot shot which was punched out brilliantly. A Sne game ended in a victory for Thistle by S goals to 3. NORTH SHORE WINS EASILY. Y.M.C.A. DEFEATS ONEHUNGA. Y.M.C.A. made many attacks on the Onetiungfw goal trom the opening whistle without success,, Jdoban ami Smith testing tho goalkeeper with hard shots. Driving the apposition > back, Onehunga was nearly through, when a inistttis>a was made by one jf i.he backs, but I'aton came out to ciear. Back in tho Onehurxga area Y.M.C.A. kept [ha defenco busy, th© inside forwards having freauent attempts at goaling. Howaver, McPhe© was on the alert and effected jo«d clearances. In escaping from one tight corner he over-carried and was penalised, but the free kick realised only an unsuccessful corner. On.ehunga then visited the Y.M.C.A. territory with better success. Johnston placed i corner-kick well into tho goal mouth and rhorjas sent it into the net. Onohunga kept pressing until driven back to the defensive again. For tho remainder of the spell ST.M.C.A. had the advantage ar;d tried hard to scons. The shooting in front of the goal was not dangerous enough, however, and Onehunga's lead of tho only goal scored had not been altered at half-time. Y.M.C.A. took the field in tho second spell with tne front rank rearranged so that Hoban was at certre instead of inside-left. It wa3 this alteration that changed the complexion of the rcatch. as tho newcomer to senior football Quickly demonstrated scoring ability. He took his passes unerringly and within seven minutes had notched all three Y.M.C.A. goa 7 3. His first goal was the reward of his own individual übi'ity, but the right wing largely contributed to the next two scores. Onehunga held its own to a large extent, throughout the spell, but could not emulate its opponents and suffered defeat by 3 goals to 1, SECONDARY SCHOOLS GAMES. FIRST ON RECORD.
