POLITICS IN AUSTRALIA.
VICTORIAN STATE POLLS. MANY CANDIDATES OFFER. (Received April 9, 1 a.m.) A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. April 8. The Victorian State elections will be held to-morrow. There are seven candidates returned unopposed, and in another electorate a candidate had a walk-over, his opponent dropping out. For the remaining 57 seats there are 171 candidates, representing the Nationalist, Labour, Country, Liberal and Country Progressive Parties and a number of independents. The poll is expected to be heavy, as the Compulsory Voting Bill will be in operation.
