ALLEGED DEFALCATIONS
INSURANCE AGENT CHARGED.
STATEMENT BY POLICE. LARGE SUM INVOLVED. [BY TEKjEGKAFH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.! CHRIST CHURCH, Friday. According to statements made by the polico in the Magistrate's Court to-day, George Cecil Neild, an AshbuHon insurance agent, aged 34, has admitted failing to account for sums of money totalling between £4OOO and £SOOO. Neild appeared before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., on remand on a charge of failing to account for the sum of £IOO to Thomas Mcßae Clark, of Ashburton, thereby committing theft. Chief-Detective Lewis asked for a further remand for a week. He said accused had surrendered himself to the police and bad since stated that he had received money amounting to between £4OOO and £SOOO, for which he had not accounted. The police had sent to Auckland and Dunedin for particulars, but had not yet received the files. Evidence was to be taken in Dunedin and it might be necessary to send accused to Dunedin to have thg whole of the evidence taken there. Accordingly, accused was remanded until next Thursday.
