ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. •aj, A BUSY YEAR WITH GAME. The 59th annual report of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society to be submitted at the meeting next Tuesday discloses that a profit of £597 was made for the year ended March 31, after meeting expenses amounting to £3309. This left a credit balance in the bank of £1099. The expenditure during the year included £ll3B for pheasants, £322 for trout, £514 for the destruction of hawks, and £498 for partridges. The report states that the new council will consider continuing the war against hawks and the payment of substantial rewards. The capitation fees last year signified the destruction of 15,754 hawks. Reference is made to the sport promised by the organised distribution of woodcock, snipe and English wild duck. It is stated in the report that heavy toll is taken of trout by shags. It has bec-n established that a shag consumes three times its own weight in fish daily. The incoming council will consider offering 6d per pair for shags' feet.
