CAPITAL VALUE £4,471,264.
ADMINISTRATION COSTS LOWER.

In a report presented to the Whangarei County Council at to-day's meeting Mr. H. C. Hemphill, county clerk, stated that the capital value of the county was £4,471,264, the unimproved value was £2,042,937; and the population comprised 9320 Europeans and 1659 Maoris. The indebtedness for the total loans raised was £98,809 163 Id and accumulated sinking funds £2539 17s Bd. The total turnover in receipts and expenditure for the past year was £112,810 0s 7d. The cost of administration last year was 5.38 per cent., compared with 5.63 per cent, in 1925-26 and 5.29 per cent, in 1924-25.
The county treasurer had collected £IO7O in overdue rates, carrying 10 per cent, penalty, since April 1. For the financial year ended March 31, Mr. J. S. Willcocks, Whangarei borough inspector, collected £2280 in licence fees. Five and a-half years ago the annual collection approximated £250. Included in the former sum was about £7OO for motor-drivers' licences.
