MAYORALTY OF- AUCKLAND. MR. BAILDON'S NOMINATION. OTHER CANDIDATES' CAMPAIGN. The nomination of Mr. George Baildon for re-election as Mayor of Auckland was lodged yesterday with the returning officer, Mr. P. F. Notley. Mr. Baildon's nominators are Sir Edwin Mitchelson, Mr. Oliver Nicholson, M r - Geo. H. Wilson, Mr. R. B. Lusk, Mr. J. B. Johnston, Mr. A. Burns and Mr. H. R. MackenzieMr. J. A. Warnock will open his compaign ,for the mayoralty of the city on Tuesday, when he will address the electors in the Remuera Library Hall. Mr. C. H. Furness will preside. Takle, the Friendly Societies' candidates for ' the Hospital Board, also lodged their nominations. Additional candidatures announced yesterday wore those of Messrs. W. H. Murray and Harvey Turner for election as representatives cf the city on the Auck» land Harbour Board, and of Mr. H. N. Preston and Mr. S. E. Chappell for election to the Mount Eden Borough Council. a. ADDRESS BY MR. BLOOD WORTH. COUNCIL AND MAYOR CRITICISED. In an address at Remuera last evening, dealing mainly with finance and tramways, Mr. T. Bloodworth, the Labour candidate for the mayoralty,, challenged the retiring Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, to reconcile his promise to provide parking areas and 'other public utilities with another plank in his platform that there should be no increase in rates. These works, said Mr. Bloodworth, could not be put in hand without an increase in rates. Asked what was the difference between the present council and those which preceded it, the candidate replied that the answer Was to be found in the difference in leadership The former councils, he remarked, were guided by a strong man in Sir James Gunsor., and when he left a prop was taken away, and most of the councillors fell—since when they did not know where they were. (Laughter.) Mr. Baildon. he added, was a " nice gentleman," but nr leader of men. Mr. Bloodworth will deliver an address on the City Council's tramway policy in the Point Chevalier Hall next Tuesday evening. SANCTITY OF THE FRANCHISE." RESOLUTION BY CHURCHES. Stimulation of church interest in the elections is sought by the Council of Christian Congregations, the executive of which has asked that the following resolution be read from the pulpits of the churches:—" In view of the pending local elections, the Council of Christian Congregations urges electors to regard the franchise as a sacred obligation, especially in regard to voting only for candidates of good character and whose influence will be on the side of public morals."

ROLL OF CITY ELECTORS. A TOTAL OF 39,167. The supplementary roll for the city is expected to bo ready next Wednesday. It contains 7192 names, and its compilation by the electoral staff at the Town Hall in a week from the last day on which applications were receivable is regarded as a meritorious performance. The main roll contains 31,975 names, making a total roll number of 39,167.
