A grant of £99 19s lid, provided it is subsidised at the rate of £3 for £1 by the Main Highways Board, was made by the Rangitikei County Council at its meeting yesterday, toward the cost of metalling the first mile of the Waiouru Road, which lies between Raketapauma Junction, near Hihitahi, and Waiouru. ' It was stated that the first mile of this rpad was in a particularly bad state. The county engineer had estimated the cost of metalling at £I2OO, of which amount the council would have to find £3OO, as the Main Highways Board had promised a subsidy of £3 for £l. Only the first mile of tho road lay entirely in the Rangitikei County, tho remainder being the boundary road between the Rangitikei and •Waimarino Counties. A resolution was passed that a special meeting be held to consider tho matter of voting a further £2OO toward tho cost of metalling the first mile of the road, provided such amount is subsidised by the Main Highways Board.
