YACHT RACING.
PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. CONTEST FOR LIPTON CUP. The Ponsonby Cruising (slub will hold a series of harbour races to-morrow afterr.on. The most important is the annual race for ' the Lipton Cup. This event is confined to the 22ft. class (L). each club having the right to challenge for the trophy annually. All the races will start and finish off the launch Marion D.. which will be morred oil St. Mary's Bay. The officials in charge of the racing will be:—Starter. Mr. E. J. Kelly: judge. Mr W S. Goodison; ballast inspectors, Messrs. A. J. Kelly and C. Thompson: timekeepers, Messrs. H. Ilewson and W D. Ross; recorder, Mr. Geo. Stephens. The starting will be on the three flag system. A flag will fall each minute and with the fall of the last flag the starting gun will be fired. Competitors must keep outside the Dolphin, and all Piles and Beacons west of western tide deflector and observe other visual fairway marks. Following are the entries and handicaps:— Classes C and E (Palmer Cup), to start at 2.30 p.m. Course: From starting line between flagship aiid flag located south, thence to resolution buoy (port hand), thence to white light buoy (starboard hand), thence to bastion beacon (starboard hand), finishing at starting line. Wairiki. scr.; Delville. 2m: Maybelle. 6m; Iris, 10m: Mahoe, 10m; Moutere, 13m. Classes H and I (Jackson Cup), to start at 2.35 p.m. Course: Same as cjasses C and E. Waitere 11.. scr.; Starlight, lm: Celox. sm: Awatcre, 6ni; Spray, 6?m: Mistletoe, ]om. Class M (Mclndoe Cup), to start at 2.40 p.m. Course: From starting line, thence to resolution (port hand). thence to sandi spit beacon (starboard hand), thence to J resolution (starboard hand), finishing across j starting line. Mollie, Maroro. MawUiti, Materere, Mischief, Manene. all scratch Class V 7 (Foster Cup), to start at 2.45 p.m. Course: Same as M class.—Surprise, scr.; Drone, lm 30s; Magic, 4m 30s: Wild Wave. 8m 30s: Leverette, 10m: Scud, 11m. Class S (Elliston Cup), to start at 2.50 p.m. Course: Start between flagship, thence to mark moored east of western tide deflector, thence round mark Shoal Bay. thence ' round mark off Watchman Island, twice round, finishing across starting line. The direction of sailing the course may be reversed at the discretion of the -starter. A black flag will denote to start east, in which case boats must keen all turning marks on port hand. A white flag will denote to start west, in which case boats must keep all turning marks on starboard hand. Kumu, scr..- Sea Sleigh, 3m; Lancia, 4m: Aratu, 4m 30s; Atangata, sm. Lipton Cup, to start at 3 p.m. For this event the course will be declared prior to the start of the race. All craft are requested to assemble and anchor off St. Mary's jetty at 1.30 p.m. for ballast inspection. The entries are: Rakoa (Richmond Cruising Club, holder) ; Huia (Ponsonby Cruising Club), Valeria Ak a ran a Yacht Club), Venus (Taknpuna Boating Club), V a run a (Devonport Yacht , Club), Kokiri (Victoria Cruising Club). Malna (Tnmaki Yacht Club). Lucille (Point Chevalier Sailing (Club), Marie (Milford Cruising Club), Mowai (Manukau Yacht ar.d Motor Boat Club). Fairway men will change as follows: Venus with Rakoa, Varuna with Valeria, Kokire with Lucille. Malua with 'Marie, Mowia_with Huia. Water sails will not be allowed. Classes T and Y (Carr Cup) to star! at 3.5 p.m. Course: Same as Class S. Alerte, scr.; Kismet, 2m; Cupid, 2m; Sea Ngone, Marie, 4m; Ngaio 11.. 6m; Dulcie, 7m; Mizpah. 9m; Mist Maid. 10m: Manu. 12m; Romp, 12m; Tamnre,, 14m. Class X. to start at 3.10 p.m., for Ilewson Memorial Cup. Crews must be under 21- years of age. Course: Same as Class" i. " ona - Joan, Nyria, Resolute, Rangi, all scratch. MANUKAU YACHT CLUB. The Manukau Yacht Club will to-morrow hold handicap races for yachts and launches over the No. 1 oourae. the limit vaclit to "tart at 2.30 p.m.. and the limit launch five minutes after the scratch vaclit. In addition to the usual prizes for the vnchts the DufT and Colledge Cuns will be competed for in this race, the DufT Cud beimr for boats which have competed in five races, and 'he Colledge Cup for boats 18ft. ami under. RACE AT TAURANGA. (IIT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) TAURANGA, Thursday. The Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club held a race yesterday afternoon for second-class yachts, which resulted as follows:—A. Leslie's, junr., Silver Link, 1; L. Hammond's Charm, 2; H. CamHie's No Surrender, 53. Ngaio broke her gaff, while Speedwell's jib was torn away. Two other races were cancelled owing to unfavourable weather.
