CITY'S WATER SUPPLY.

MOUNT EDEN COMPLAINT. SERVICE PIPES CORRODED* Further complaint regarding the nature of the city water was made at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. The waterworks foreman reported that the colour of the watef had been almost chocolate at times. The taste had been most pronounced, while it also possessed a strong smell 01 decayed vegetable matter, Particles of silt were visible and the effect on the sorvice pipes throughout the district was most serious, owing to the foreign matter in the water corroding the pipes. In many cases the services were new, continued the report, and they had only been installed within the last two or three years. In the past, following heavy rain, the water had been cloudy for a day or two, but as no rain had fallen for some time, the state of the water must have been due to some other cause. It did not appear to bo improving, and during the last week it had been worse. A large number of complaints had been received from consumers in the borough. After some discussion, it was decided to write to the Auckland City Council protesting against the condition of the water and urging that a remedy be found. It was also decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Health Department.
