OBSTRUCTION ON BRIDGE.

MENACE TO TRAFFIC, IMMEDIATE ACTION URGED. The manner in which the Railway Department had repaired the railway bridge in Mount Eden Road was criticised at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. The borough engineer reported that the work was most unsatisfactory. The old structure was dangerous to pedestrians and the additional work, while removing the menace to pedestrians, accentuated the danger to motor vehicles and their passengers. One accident had occurred already, and if something was not done to remove the guard rail, the main obstruction, there would be many more. It was stated that the recently-erected rail projected sft. 4in. on to the roadway, resulting in a width of only Sir. between the guard rail and a tramcar. "The matter demands drastic action." stated the engineer, "and I recommend that the Minister of Railways be approached with a view to removing this dangerous obstruction." It was decided to draw the attention of the department to the report.
