MOTORIST IN COURT.
ASSAULT CHARGE ADMITTED. INCIDENT ON ROADSIDE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAPAKURA, Monday. An incident on the Hunua Gorge Road on December 18 feswltpd in Matthew Cooney being charged in the Papakura Police Court to-day with assaulting William Rodwell by putting his arms round bis neck and kicking him. Accused, who pleaded guilty, explained that Rodwell's car and his own were about to pass and, to avoid an accident, ho pulled his car into the ditch on the roadside. The car was not damaged, but Rodwell, who was on his wrong side, accused him of losing his head and said the cars could have passed without one going into the ditch. He thereupon caught hold of Rodwell and kicked him. He regretted the action, especially as lie had been driving cars for many years and had never had an accident, noi? had he ever assaulted anyone before. The magistrate, Mr. J. W. Poynton, itpposed a fine of"£2.
