SMALLPOX ON STEAMER.

THE GANGES AT SUVA. STRICT PRECAUTIONS TAKEN. [from OUR OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] SUVA, Jan. 26. Very strict care is being taken to prevent any communication between the steamer Ganges, now anchored some 10 miles from Suva, and anyone from the town. The same applies in connection with the smallpox patients on the two islands of Nnkulau and Makuluva. The cases are on the latter while all passengers are isolated on Nukulau, with two European guards. The police also patrol the vicinity of the islands and the steamer, using H.M.C.S. Pioneer as headquarters. The latter is anchored some distance from the islands and the steamer. There have been two deaths, one of a girl and the ether of a baby. Both bodies were buried at sea in deep water. Four new cases are reported, the last being on Tuesday. The steamer will be fumigated thoroughly shortly and allowed to discharge her cargo and she will then take on board 1000 Indians for Calcutta.
