" DANGEROUS WHEN DRUNK." STRUGGLE WITH A CONSTABLE. "He is evidently a dangerous man when he is drunk," said Senior-Sergeant Edwards in the Police Court yesterday when Frank Beerton, aged 33, was charged with being disorderly while drunk in Jervois Road and resisting a constable. Constable Holt said accused was standing with several half-drunken men outside an hotel'on Saturday evening. When told to move on accused refused and challenged witness to fight. Two of his friends- tried to take him home, but he broke away from them and began to take off his coat to fight. Witness arrested him, but had to obtain assistance and handcuff him. The senior-sergeant said accused bad a number of previous convictions for assault, resisting arrest and being disorderly while drunk. In May of last year he was fined £5 and £3 on two charges of assault. Accused was fined £2 on each charge, in default one week's imprisonment. OFFENCE IN A THEATRE. "It was a disgusting thing to do," said Chief-Detective Cuminings when Cyril Worthington admitted being drunk and committing an offensive act in His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday evening. Accused f/as fined £1 on the first charge and £3 on the second, with costs £l, in default seven days' imprisonment. MISCELLANEOUS CHARGES. A charge that being a person against whom a maintenance order was issued in March, 1922, he attempted to leave New Zealand without the written permission of a Magistrate, with intent to mako default in obeying the order, was preferred against Harry Ansell. Accused was remanded to appear at Napier next Tuesday. William Tyman, aged 64, pleaded guilty to a charge of vagrancy, and was remanded for a week for sentence.
