STRUCK WITH TEAPOT.

HUSBAND ASSAULTS WIFE. INCIDENT AFTER THE RACES. " She is the most drunken and foulmouthed woman I know," said John Peters, aged 51, when admitting in the Police Court yesterday that he assaulted his wife, Emma Mary Peters. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said accused's wife came home from the races on Saturday and asked for a bottle of stout. As he had none to give her she used some rather unladylike language. Accused then picked up the teapot and hit her on the head with it. He caused a severe wound and it took a doctor a considerable time to stop the flow of blood, while several stitches had to be inserted. Accused said his wife came home from the races, having lost all her money, and without provocation began to call him "all the names she could think of." The Magistrate, Mr. McKean: You may have had considerable provocation, but that does not justify you in using the teapot, you know. Accused: I lost my head. Accused was fined £2 and ordered to pay £2 2s medical expenses, in default seven days' imprisonment.
