If you're tramping along To a little tin whistle. And an old toy drum are some of the lines in a song by the composer Max Darewski, written to assist the funds of the Ypres League. The lines quoted refer to the exploit of Sir Tom Bridges, when he rallied his exhausted men during the retreat from Mons. The song was broadcast from London by a choir which included various Peers and Peeresses, after the objects of the League had been explained. Lieutcnant-General Sir Tom Bridges entered the Army in 1892, and at the outbreak of war was in the 4th Hussars. He 1 served with great distinction right through the war, being several times mentioned in despatches, and gaining many decorations, and was created K.C.M.G., and later K.C.B. He vas also Head of the British War Missions to the United States and in the East. In 1922 he was appointed Governor of South Australia.
