NAVY OF BRITAIN.

SCRAPPING BATTLESHIPS. REDUCTION OF STRENGTH. COMPARISON WITH AMERICA. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON. Dec. 14. The Times states that the scrapping of the battleships Ajax, King George V., Thunderer and Centurion, under the Washington Treaty, temporarily reduces the British battleship strength from 18 to 14, compared with 18 owned by the United States, as the replacing battleships, Nelson and Rodney, will probably not be commissioned for six months. Britain, however, has four, battlecruisers, whereas America has none. No further treaty scrapping will be required until 1934.
