DETECTIVE ON TRIAL.
SERIOUS CHARGES MADE. VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 11.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 15. Detective Fowler, of the railway detective branch, who was charged with conspiracy, theft of moneys and, demanding money with threats, has been found not guilty. In April, 1925, Fowler was with three other detectives committed for trial on charges of conspiracy, of the theft of £IOOO, and of demanding money with menaces from one Terence Callaghan. It was alleged that the detectives arranged with CaSaghan, who, with his daughter, was concerned in a case of receiving stolen goods, to be paid £6500 to hush up the case. Callaghan alleged that he paid over £IOOO and then informed the police.
