BRITISH BY-ELECTION.

COMMUNISTS- DENOUNCED. LABOUR AND LADY MOSLEY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 15. Mr. Stanley Baldwin, the Prims Minister, has sent a letter to the Government candidate in the by-election at Smethwick. In it he says: "The promotion of industrial unrest by .the Communists, with the intention of driving the workers into the ranks of the revolutionaries, is cruel and callous. This must be. stopped. We must prevent Communists from misusing the power of the trades unions for their own wicked ends. "We have no intention of destroying,or weakening trade unionism, but we intend to make it a real industrial organisation, which can speak for the workers, without the suspicion of any sinister purpose behind its arguments." The by-election is of the liveliest description and is characterised by many personalities, because the Labour candidate, Mr. Oswald Moslcy, is being actively assisted by his wife, Lady Cynthia Mosley. She is asked at nearly every meeting, "Why don't you distribute your own wealth?" Lady Cynthia Mosley is a daughter of the late Marquess Curzon. Mr. Oswald Mosley is the son and heir of Sir Oswald Mosley, Bt. He and his wife recently announced their conversion to Labour, he having for some time been a Conservative M.P., and both were well known in society.
