FIGHTING BUSH FIRES.
FARMER AND THE COURT. PROTESTS AGAINST SUBPOENA. At the sitting of the Land Board at Parkes, New South Wales, recently a farmer protested against being subpoenaed by the Crown to give evidence in a case in which he was in no way interested. He was called upon to produce a contract for the sale of his own property, which was 13 miles from the land that was the subject of the case. He had been brought 30 miles to produce this contfact, and up to 4 o'clock that morning had been fire-fighting on his own property. It was possible he might lose 3000 sheep as a result of his absence. Me asked that his protest be forwarded to the Minister of Lands.
