[BY TELEGKATH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURAKGA. Monday.

The winning bird reached its loft in 3h. 55m. after liberation. Results are:—N. V. Prime's Kaha, velocity 1434 yds. per minute, 1; W. O. Stevens' Hippo, 1375yd5., 2; H. Stevens' Ace High, 1366yd5., 3. The official opening of the Tauranga Lawn Tenr.is Club took place on the Domain courts on Saturday when there was a large attendance of members, visiting players and friends. The courts were in excellent order, and were fully occupied from 2 p.m. till 5.30 p.m. The membership is larger than last year and there is every indication of a very successful season. The match committee will meet at an early date for the purpose of arranging tournaments and ladder competitions. The Union Company's steamer Kartigi arrived from Greymouth and Westport via Napier at 2 p.m. yesterday. She is unloading 600 tons of coal for the Public Works Department at Mount Maunganul. The Kartigi is duo to sail for Greymouth to-morrow afternoon.

The first heats of the Tauranga Rowing Club's trial pair-oar races took place on Saturday afternoon, the races being keenly contested. Although a strong westerly wind was blowing the course from the new railway wharf to the finishing line was well sheltered and conditions were favourable for rowing. The crews for the first heat were:—O. Haua, J. Berridge, R. Tonkin (cox); W. Turner, N. Compbell, G. Carswell (cox). Haua's crew won by a length and a-half. The next heat was rowed between C.
