BUILDING STONES.
Sir,—Please give me a little space to ask " Local Industry " a question 5 Let me say that I am in full sympathy with nil he wrote. ITc missed one important point when he said nothing about the money sent out of Auckland to England for Portland stone for the War Museum, which Sir James Giinson, at the laying of the foundation stone, reported as costing £BSOO more than if they had been able to obtain the Hawkesbury stone, at first selected.-See what the first cost and the extra £BSOO would have done for the stone masons and labourers here—if there had been a suitable stone, in the province of Auckland. I want to ask " Local Industry " where the building stone is that he states is better than the soft Southern stones going bad .in Auckland ? Stonemason.
