VICTORIA AVENUE BUS.
Sir,—Aftei reading Mr. Thomas' letter in Wednesday's Herald re the discontinuation of the bus service from Victoria Avenue terminus, through Brighton Road, to the city, I do not think Mr. Thomas said quite enough as to the delay and inconvenience to which the public have been subjected. For instance, 1 could leave Victoria Avenue terminus at 7 a.m. and be at my business at 7.10 a.m., whereas now, with the tram service, I leave at 6.55 a.m. and do not get to my business until 7.22. Another Resident.
Sir,—Mr. Thompson does not in his explanation of the withdrawal .of the bus service from the foot of \ ietoria Avenue give any other reason than that those living there are '"rightly tram passengers." He does not, and I think cannot, refute my statement that, to travel by tram would take me (approximately) 40 minutes to reach the Chief Post Office, as against 15 minutes by the bus. As a matter of fact, like many others living at the foot of Victoria Avenue, I do not think I am very far out in saying that, even before the bus service started, I used, the tram only about 24 times on week days every year. It was and will be much more convenient and quicker 'to walk to Parnell than to be forced to use the Victoria Avenue tram. A further point is that,. until the bus service started the Tramway Department said that "it was impossible to give us more than a halfhourly service," and it required their competition to give us a 20-minuto service. N. R. W. Thomas.
