STORMS IN BRITAIN.
WINTER'S VIOLENT ENTRY. GREAT HAVOC WROUGHT. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. 26. A series of violent storms introduced the winter season in Scotland. Several churches were struck by lightning and great havoc was wrought in the forests. As nearly half the root crops have not yet been lifted, growers are faced with a heavy loss owing to the frosts. The torrential storms extended over a large part of England and Wales. Many sheep perished in the mountain districts.
